Create a Travel Itinerary in 7 Easy Steps

When you’re starting to plan your next big trip, the first thing on your mind should be where you want to go and when. But then it’s time to think about how you’re going to get there, what route will take you from point A to point B with the least amount of hassle, and which form of transportation you’ll take (and if there are any freebies involved). As with everything else in life, there are several different ways to create a travel itinerary that works best for different types of travelers and trips.

Step 1: Decide What You Want From Your Trip

If you’re like most people, your stress levels are at an all-time high. Because of long work hours and other outside commitments, many of us spend as little time as possible with our families or on vacation. Planning and going on vacation is stressful enough but having to research it all from scratch can be daunting. The best way to relieve some of that stress is to decide what you want from your trip: Do you want relaxation? Adventure? Or maybe just something fun for your family to do?

Step 2: Put Together an Outline

The best way to make your trip enjoyable is to plan ahead of time, whether you’re traveling internationally or just out of town. By sitting down and mapping out where you want to go and how long you want to be there, you can relieve stress, save money, avoid crowds, and see things off-season often for less money. If you’re not interested in renting an RV or even traveling abroad, there are still plenty of ways to experience life on the road. Consider camping at state parks, taking day trips via car, or even living vicariously through your friends and family by planning their vacations for them. The opportunities are endless!

Step 5: Check The Weather

We love traveling outdoors, but what we don’t love is being stuck somewhere due to bad weather. Check up on global weather patterns before you hit go and make sure your dream travel destination will be favorable. You may want to purchase a small portable fan to keep you cool while exploring your new city, and also pack some extra comfortable walking shoes just in case there is any rain!

Step 6: Break Down By Day

Once you’ve created your route, break it down by day. This step is easy if you know where you’re going and how long it will take to get there. Simply list each destination, along with key activities for that location. If you’re having trouble deciding how much time to spend at each destination, look at travel guides or ask friends who have visited those destinations before.

Step 7: List Things To Do

Next, it’s time to start creating your itinerary by listing all of your must-see destinations.
